FEATHERS
& FLEWS
The Newsletter of The Central Carolina English Setter Club.
FROM THE ARCHIVES . . .

The Newsletter of The Central Carolina English Setter Club ran from 2008 - 2014. The editor was J. Martin Sondey. He credits J.M. Straub (who passed unexpectedly in 2014) with much of the newsletters success. Martin memorialized her in the July 21, 2014 issue - “Jeanne was a big contributor to this newsletter, with her name appearing on many, many articles over the years. Plus, her photography skills provided a welcome and endless well of high-quality images . . . Her journalistic skills were a welcome beacon to a publication seeking to enhance the English Setter breed. She was an invaluable part of the newsletter beginning with the first issue, and became the Assistant Editor with the July 2011 issue.

The newsletters were colorful, informative, educational, entertaining and had a joie de vivre. After reading one, it would be hard NOT to fall in love with an English Setter! It was so good, in fact, that it was entered in the Alliance of Purebred Dog Writers (APDW) national writing contest at the end of 2009. Feathers and Flews was announced as a Finalist during Westminster Weekend 2010 in the electronic newsletter category.

The editors described Feathers & Flews as a “publication by the members of the Central Carolina English Setter Club; meant to be a photojournalistic celebration of the love we have for the Setters we own and the Setters we breed.” In tribute to the history of this wonderful club and the Feathers and Flews Legacy, it is also the goal of this web site. In fact, text and pictures from many of the newsletters can be found on our pages. We also welcome any heartwarming images of, or stories about, English Setters from around the world.
